Sunderland Restaurant Week is returning from 17th–25th September

With a whole host of choice, from Indian street food and Greek gyros to delicious coffee and cake, here are our top picks of the cafés and restaurants where you can dine at a discount during Sunderland Restaurant Week.
Spent Grain Spent Grain

Spent Grain

In the heart of the city, start your day off right with two delicious brunch dishes for £15 at Spent Grain. Choose from eggs Benedict, chicken and waffles, avocado on sourdough or a full veggie breakfast. Visiting later in the day? Opt for two courses for £15 with dishes including soup, garlic mushrooms and pâté for starters, buttermilk chicken burger, king prawn stir fry and halloumi flatbread for mains, or French toast, key lime pie and ice cream sandwiches for dessert.

Acropolis Street Food
STACK, Whitburn Road, Seaburn, SR6 8AA
Famous across the North East for their authentic Greek dishes, Acropolis is a must this Sunderland Restaurant Week. For £15 you can enjoy the Dirty Greek (a scrumptious combination of loaded fries and everyone’s favourite chicken gyros, topped with Acropolis’ homemade tzatziki, chilli and signature sauce) alongside dolmadaki stuffed vine leaves. Or go for any of the wraps with a side of fries for £10.

Grinder Coffee Co.
Durham Road, Sunderland SR2 7AA
Even if you’re just after a coffee and a sweet treat, you can still enjoy a discount. At Grinder Coffee Co. pick up a regular coffee and a brownie or traybake for £5 – there’s everything from pink slices (a Sunderland delicacy), to Biscoff millionaires shortbreads and apple and blackcurrant vegan crumblejacks. 808 Bar & Kitchen
21 St Thomas Street, Sunderland SR1 1QD
Enjoy an evening of feasting and casual dining at this Sunderland hotspot. With any pizza and fries for £10, or four tapas dishes for £15, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Our pick would be the Spanish pie wood-fired pizza topped with Parmesan, fresh mozzarella, prawns, chorizo, green olives, manchego shavings and dustings of smoked paprika. In the mood for small dishes? We recommend the Thai satay belly pork, the salt and chilli squid and the patatas bravas.

Six Pier Point

Marine Walk, Seaburn SR6 0PL
If you’re after handmade pizza made with the finest ingredients and cooked in a Gozney wood-fired oven, look no further than Fausto Pizza. During Restaurant Week they’re offering two pizzas for just £15. We love the sound of the Nduja topped with spicy Calabrian sausage paste, pecorino, chilli and heaps of rocket, but if spice isn’t for you, the classic Fausto pizza topped with parma ham, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto is a must.

Prego Bar and Eatery
Dykeland Road, Seaburn SR6 8DD
The team at Prego combine fresh produce with innovative flavours giving you an Italian heritage-inspired menu full of unique twists. During Restaurant Week diners can enjoy two courses for £10 or three for £15. If you’re going all out we recommend the meatball bruschetta or the Madeira pâté followed by risotto arrabbiata, the mixed grilled vegetable pizza or the slow braised beef shoulder served with pancetta, carrots and creamy mash. To finish, our choice would be the warm apple cake served with custard.
