We may be halfway through the year, but there's still plenty for foodies to look forward to

Whether you're a beer lover, a street-food fanatic, or just like to try something new, there are loads of food festivals across the North East and Yorkshire this summer.

Bridlington Seafood Festival

Celebrating the town’s coastal heritage, there’s plenty to see and do at Bridlington Seafood Festival at the end of July. Street food is served from 2pm on Friday and from 10am on Saturday – expect a wide variety of locally-sourced seafood as well as chef demonstrations, market stalls and family entertainment (think Punch and Judy shows, sea shanties and live music).

The Riverside Food & Drink Festival Wetherby

Taking place in beautiful water meadows and parkland, find street food vendors including Eyup Thai, The Otley Burger Company, Ichi Sushi, Little Somboon Box and more here. There will also be a Cookery Theatre where you can watch chefs from some of your favourite local eateries do what they do best in front of a live audience, as well as live music and produce stalls to browse.

Seaham Food Festival

A delicious day out on the North East coast, there’s a great line up of chefs to enjoy here, including TV chef Phil Vickery, chocolatier Paul Young and Great British Bake Off Finalist Josh Smalley. Food traders like the Armenian Kitchen, La Porketta and Mean Bean Coffee will also be there.

Filey Food and Drink Festival

Browse more than 50 stalls showcasing the very best Yorkshire food and drink as well as brilliant produce from further afield. Free to attend, find fresh seafood, artisan chocolate and homemade preserves, cakes and international street food options (Greek, Thai and Caribbean to name a few). At Crescent Gardens, you can find a real ale bar with stalls also offering a variety of wines and spirits.

Whitley Bay Beer Festival

Fancy a tipple or two to accompany some great food? This three-day beer festival is not one to miss. Expect everything here from cider and gin to rum, as well as 36 cask ales and a prosecco bar. Food stalls include local talent Hadrian’s Wood Fired Pizza and Slackjaw’s Gourmet Burger. There’s also an extensive line-up of musicians across the full weekend.

Berwick Food and Beer Festival

The 17th instalment of this event, this is a great opportunity to discover wonderful local food and explore the surrounding area. Organised by Berwick Slow Food, expect a range of classic street food and food stalls, as well as a demo kitchen and a space for kids to get creative with food. The bar marquee will stock excellent local brews as well as those from further afield – just check the website for regular updates of the suppliers you can look forward to.

Great North Feast in The Park

A firm favourite in the calendar of local foodies, this festival overlooks the sea at Bents Park, and hosts a combination of independent street food vendors and local producers. There’s plenty to keep the whole family happy too, including live acts and a great kids’ area.

Harrogate Food & Drink Festival

Taking place at Ripley Castle, this family-friendly food festival is a celebration of international cuisine, artisan produce and street food. There will be more than 30 different cuisines represented here, as well as eight independent bars, two produce markets, dessert stations and live chef demos. There’s plenty here besides as well including free kids’ activities, a traditional funfair and live entertainment.

York Food & Drink Festival

A 10-day extravaganza, this is much more than just a food and drink festival. Here, you’ll find a huge range of both food and retail market stands, two great festival bar areas, a demonstration area for local chefs (with tastings available of course), free cookery workshops at the Museum Gardens and more. What’s not to love?
