For good food in Yorkshire this weekend, go east

Beverely and the surrounding area are home to some of the hottest tables around including Eddie Scott's L'Opaline Bistrot, The Pipe and Glass Inn and The Westwood.

The Beverley Arms

25 North Bar Within, Beverley
HU17 8DD

Having first opened its doors in 1794, this characterful 18th coaching inn close to the town centre has been beautifully restored but still retains its historic features. The chefs here serve up hearty portions of home-cooked food which can be enjoyed in the bright and airy restaurant with its open kitchen, or al fresco if the weather allows. While we love their homemade burgers, their sharing plates are always a winner.

Central 42

If you’re seeking quality coffee, classic cocktails and tasty tapas, look no further. But you might struggle to choose – the tapas menu here is extensive, and the drinks are a hit too. Pair your meal with one of their classic cocktails (or a sangria), or browse the dedicated gin menu.

L’Opaline Bistrot

36 Highgate, Beverley HU7 0DN
opalinebistrot.com

A new bistrot focusing on a blend of classic French cuisine and regional Indian flavours from 2022’s Masterchef UK champion Eddie Scott. It’s open for dinner from Wednesday until Saturday, with Wednesday dedicated to a biryani feast, and Sundays are for a spectacular Lyonnais brunch, served from 11.30am until 2pm.

Open Wednesday to Saturday, this intimate restaurant specialises in tasting menus where each course is a surprise but every element is planned and prepared to perfection. Sample ingredients, flavour combinations and dishes you might not normally choose, all expertly prepared and beautifully presented with their four-course tasting menu available Wednesday and Thursday, or their nine-course menu from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Pipe and Glass

West End, South Dalton, Beverley HU17 7PN

With an international reputation, Michelin-starred The Pipe and Glass is so much more than your average former coaching inn. James and Kate Mackenzie have been at the helm here since 2006, and they have plenty more awards under their belt as well as their coveted star. Whether you’re just popping in for a sandwich or you’re here for the full-blown, Michelin-star experience, you’re always promised great food and brilliant service (and there are dedicated vegetarian, vegan and ‘little peoples’ menus, so no one’s left out).

Once again recommended by the Michelin Guide for 2024 (and with two AA Rosette awards), The Westwood has made a Grade II-listed former courthouse a must-visit destination for culinary connoisseurs. This local, neighbourhood restaurant has always served modern British dishes made with the best local ingredients on its hugely tempting menu, and don’t miss The W Bar, a cocktail bar hidden above the restaurant (perfect for a post-dinner drink). There’s also a heated covered terrace for al fresco dining, perfect for a leisurely Sunday lunch or evening with friends.
