In a showcase of Nigerian cultural heritage, QDance Company’s Re:Incarnation (Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th October 2024) presents 10 young dancers and two musicians who bring the cycle of life to the stage with raw energy and urban flair. Drawing inspiration from the vibrancy of Lagos, this performance combines the ancient Yoruba philosophy with the pulse of modern Nigerian youth culture. Set to the rhythmic beats of Afrobeats – an exhilarating blend of jazz, soul, funk and traditional African music – the dancers create a unique and powerful expression of identity and uncompromising joy. The party begins the moment audiences arrive, with Nigerian DJ Azula Bandit performing a live set at the theatre before both shows.

Later this month, Northern Ballet’s critically acclaimed production of Romeo & Juliet (Wednesday 23rd–Saturday 26th October 2024), brings Shakespeare’s timeless love story to life. Adapted by Christopher Gable and Massimo Moricone, this visually stunning ballet showcases glorious dancers, dramatic sets and Prokofiev’s timeless score. Every movement breathes fresh energy into this classic tale of star-crossed lovers, so audiences will fall in love with the story all over again.

Scottish Ballet’s The Nutcracker (Thursday 6th–Saturday 8th February 2025) is the perfect treat for the entire family, featuring enchanting costumes, Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score, and story straight from a fairytale. Audiences will follow Clara as she embarks on an adventure through the Land of Ice and Snow, into the Land of Sweets, where she meets the magical Sugar Plum Fairy. With live music performed by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, this production promises to bring joy to the winter and is the perfect gift for all ages.

Finally, returning for a major 30th anniversary revival, once again turning tradition on its head, Matthew Bourne’s groundbreaking reimagining of Swan Lake (Tuesday 25th March–Saturday 5th April 2025) returns to Newcastle Theatre Royal. This audacious, rule-breaking reinvention, first staged in 1995, replaced the traditional female corps-de-ballet with a powerful male ensemble, shattering conventions and captivating audiences around the world. Now, a new generation of dancers takes on this thrilling and emotive masterpiece and whether you’re experiencing it for the first time or reliving its magic, this production promises to be as sensational as ever.
