Remaining in its convenient town centre premises, the business has also now extended into the property next door, installing both of its stunning new ‘show kitchens’ in the beautifully repurposed space.
Wood & Wire’s reputation has partly been built on the success of its popular birch ply kitchens; a critically acclaimed design inspired by a mid-century modern aesthetic. While the two new styles continue this aesthetic tradition and still use robust birch ply carcasses, they offer a more uniform and minimal overall look, with longer unbroken runs of cabinets and overlaid rather than inset doors. More sparing use of colour is another characteristic of the new Wood & Wire styles, although different finishes and veneers are available.
Owner-designer Jim Leach explains: ‘While our original and unmistakable kitchen design remains popular, certain customers were asking for something a little different, so we responded. The new styles are still rooted in our signature mid-century modern aesthetic but offer a subtly different and more understated alternative: one that we think many people will love. The expanded showroom doubles our space, providing the chance to not just see the quality of our design and craftsmanship close up but to actually feel it too. With such tactile, natural products and high-quality appliances, that’s really crucial for our customers.’

This expansion marks the latest chapter in an ongoing success story for Wood & Wire. In just 10 years of trading, this small, independent, ethically-minded business has been a finalist in the coveted Northern Design Awards four times, winning its category twice. The company has also featured in prestigious media including Vogue, Ideal Home and The Sunday Times, as well as appearing on Channel 4’s flagship Grand Designs show.
Today, the business designs, builds and installs kitchens, interiors and furniture for customers all over the UK. Increasingly, the team works with architects too, creating unique interior spaces featuring their trademark blend of functionality, sustainability and breathtaking modernist design.
