A series of Open Days for prospective residents is scheduled at Walworth Castle, by Heighington, County Durham, a stunning gated residential park in a woodland setting lying in an elevated position surrounded by rolling countryside

There are nine luxury homes at present, and another 20 are planned for phase one of the project, with up to 100 more in two future phases.

With two splendidly furnished Show Homes now on the site beside the A68, Open Days have been announced for the weekend of the 13th, 14th and 15th of September and again over the weekend of 25th, 26th and 27th of October to allow potential purchasers to see its remarkable ambience, amenity and affordability for themselves.

Exclusively reserved for the over 50s, and with security and peace of mind at the heart of the development, the lodge-style residential park homes at Walworth Castle are already generating significant interest.

In the interests of community spirit, the developers have also reopened the Blacksmiths Arms pub on the corner of the site, a traditional family country pub on the edge of the pretty village of Heighington, now open to the public, offering guests and local residents a wide range of delicious food to complement their drinks and a focal point for socialising and community events.

‘This is already becoming a wonderful site,’ says Gillian Chapman, Sales Manager at Walworth Castle. ‘Set in some of the loveliest English countryside imaginable and within a 15-mile radius of Kynren, the live outdoor show which tells the epic tale of England, Auckland Castle, Hartlepool Marina, Durham City, Barnard Castle, Shildon Railway Museum and Darlington.

‘Less than two kilometres away is Walworth Castle itself, which dates back to 1150 and was home to the Hansard family – known as the Handsome Hansards – who are famous for chronicling the debates in the Houses of Parliament. It is now a luxury hotel.

‘Darlington, the nearest big centre, still has a distinctive Victorian feel to it but at the same time is undergoing extensive restoration and redevelopment making it a great place to live. And you can be in London in just over two hours.’

With a modern, fully fitted kitchen plus integrated appliances, as well as a comfortable living room, two bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite bathroom, all with a manufacturer’s guarantee, the energy-efficient homes will be ready to move into without any need for decoration or updating.

Buyers, however, can add value to their properties with touches of luxury such as hot tubs, balconies, decking, solar panelling and outdoor furniture. They will sell at prices starting from £149,000 with the development offering up to 100 percent for part exchange.

The Walworth Castle homes will be particularly attractive to buyers approaching retirement, or who are keen to realise the equity trapped in their more traditional homes.
