Dreamy Dog-Friendly Hotels
The Devonshire Arms
The dog-friendly Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa in Yorkshire is set within 30,000 acres of stunning grounds on the Bolton Abbey estate, at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. There are miles and miles of footpaths through the nearby National Park to explore, and some beautiful walks which begin on the hotel’s doorstep. For those looking for the ultimate in relaxation, there’s a fabulous spa featuring a pool, Rasul and Jacuzzi, and a range of treatments are available – you can ask for dog-sitting services should you be stressed over leaving your pet while you chill out in the spa.
The award-winning 3AA Rosette Burlington Restaurant offers a seasonal tasting menu featuring the finest locally-sourced ingredients and, wherever possible, ingredients are sourced from the hotel’s own kitchen garden, whilst The Brasserie offers guests a more modern gastro-menu in contemporary surroundings. Dogs are welcome in the cosy lounge bar and there’s even a dog lounge – a cosy sitting room with an open fire and canine-inspired decor and artwork – where you can enjoy drinks and desserts. There’s even a dedicated dog menu.

St Valery B&B
We wrote about St Valery when it first opened, and are delighted that it has proved such a popular little outpost on the coast of Northumberland. There are just four double rooms in this boutique B&B, but each one has everything you need for the perfect breakaway; comfy beds, crisp sheets, silk-filled pillows and duvets, power showers and deep tubs – St Benedict is the one you need to book if you are bringing your pooch. Tucked away in the pretty village of Alnmouth, the beach is on your doorstep and you can head out for the day armed with a special St Valery hamper. Back from the beach there’s a well-stocked honesty bar, perfect for an afternoon snifter or a pre-dinner pick-me-up. Breakfast here is a leisurely affair and the B&B is currently running special supper clubs on several nights of the week. Alternatively, if you prefer to eat out they can book you the best tables at local restaurants. And that’s just for the adults… St Valery loves dogs. From the handmade treats to the special doggy beds and handy towels to deal with sandy paws. Roxy is the resident house dog and is always willing to share her supper should you forget yours.

Linthwaite House
This gorgeous hilltop hotel has 14 acres of gardens and its own tarn to explore, and that’s before you head down to nearby Lake Windermere. It’s the ultimate in luxury but still retains a home-from-home feel with huge squishy sofas to curl up in beside roaring fires, beautiful bedrooms and stylish public spaces. Dogs are allowed to dine al fresco on the Terrace with you, and in the Lounge and Conservatory, but sadly can’t join you in Henrock, Simon Rogan’s new outpost where he creates the most incredible and imaginative dishes using local produce, much of which comes from his own ‘farm’ in Cartmel a few miles away.

Lord Crewe Arms
Once the guest house for the nearby Blanchland Abbey, this beautiful inn sits snugly on the southern edge of Northumberland and the border of County Durham, surrounded by vast moorland and underneath even bigger skies, perfect for walking and exploring. The Lord Crewe is happy to accommodate two pooches (aged one year or older) in their dog-friendly rooms, where they’ll be greeted with a cosy bed, towel and special treats too. Dogs are also welcome in the cosy crypt bar, in the large walled garden and can dine with you beside the fire in the Hilyard and Derwent Larders, but we reckon after all that walking they’ll be happy to curl up in your room while you enjoy the cracking food in the Bishop’s Dining Room.
