Here are your go-to-gigs and must-not-miss shows in Yorkshire and Darlington to get you going this month...

From one of the UK's most performed plays to a production of Aladdin and The 1975 at First Direct Arena, Leeds to Circa Waves at 02 Academy, Sheffield, we've rounded up some of the best shows in January this month.

Buttershaw St Paul’s Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, one of West Yorkshire’s leading theatre groups, are returning to the stage with their latest musical comedy production, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It’s based on the film of the same name featuring Steve Martin and Michael Caine – two con men try to settle their rivalry by betting on who can swindle a young American heiress out of $50,000 first.

Originally premiering at the Edinburgh Festival in 1977, Bouncers is still one of the most performed plays in the UK today. It’s a classic comedy and a Northern favourite. Les, Ralph, Judd and Lucky Eric will relive a night in a Yorkshire disco in the 80s. Described as ‘a hideously funny Saturday Night Fever,’ everyone will be there: the DJ, the girls, boys and the fish and chip van.

The first three celebrities who will be joining 2023’s hotly-anticipated Strictly Come Dancing Live UK arena tour have been announced: actor Will Mellor, Paralympic swimming champion and broadcaster Ellie Simmonds and DJ Tyler West. They’ll be joined by Strictly judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke (who is appearing on the arena tour for the first time), and Janette Manrara will be your host. Founded in 1947 and currently celebrating their 75th anniversary, Varna International Ballet are coming to the UK for the very first time. This most famous of fantasy ballets for all the family begins as night falls on Christmas Eve and the story is also celebrating an anniversary this year – it’s The Nutcracker’s 130th year on stage.
