The Old Liquor Store
The Old Liquor Store restaurant in York is headed up by renowned local chef Matt Leivers, who has more than 10 years experience in some of the UK’s most acclaimed Michelin-accredited restaurants. Matt has worked in a number of fine dining restaurants in the Midlands and York and joined the team at the Old Liquor Store ahead of its opening in July 2023. Given a blank canvas, he has utilised his skills and expertise honed from previous experience to create a novel concept based on Italian-inspired cuisine with a modern take on classic tapas and sharing platters. The diverse and ever evolving menu makes the best use of seasonal ingredients and showcases Matt’s refined style of cooking and accomplished culinary background.

The View
With more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, Chris Hobson has worked his way up from humble pot washer to award-winning chef, gaining a wealth of knowledge and expertise along the way. Chris has honed his craft in some of the finest hotels and restaurants, including a prestigious two AA Rosette fine dining establishment and has become a respected figure on the Yorkshire food scene, making appearances on BBC Radio York’s Yorkshire Kitchen series with Kat Cowan and featuring on Channel 4’s Yorkshire by the Sea. In 2025, Chris is set to embark on his most exciting venture yet—opening The View Restaurant in Scarborough where he will bring his ethos to life, working closely with local suppliers to ensure his dishes are fresh, seasonal and sustainable, celebrating the outstanding quality of Yorkshire’s produce.

Explaining the tried and tested ways to cook the best Tomahawk, Wagyu Sirloin and Ribeye they’ll let you in on all the hints and tips for cooking the perfect steak along with the secrets the chefs use for making the very best macaroni cheese, chimichurri and bacon and creamed peas to cook at home like a pro.

She is part of the 2023/24 American Academy of The Taste Awards Judges and a past presenter and judge for the BBC Radio York Make A Difference Awards.

Temujin Restaurant
Eating at Temujin Restaurant is an exciting, healthy and unique experience. They specialise in stir fry where the main course is the main feature. Diners select raw products, ranging from kangaroo to chicken, seafood, mussels or vegan and vegetarian proteins and, of course, a big selection of vegetables. They then hand the selection to a chef in the open kitchen along with a tick sheet giving the chef instructions as to how they would like their food cooked. Temujin have been in operation for more than 25 years and in that time they have created their own range of hugely popular cooking sauces, oils and stir fry kits which is what they’ll be demonstrating at Living North LIVE.

Skosh
Chef-owner Neil Bentinck opened his dining room, Skosh, in the historic city of York in June 2016. Neil has designed a modern and informal space to enjoy an eclectic mix of snacks and small plates with a succinct wine list, local and international craft beers and seasonal cocktails. Skosh has received both local and national acclaim and has been featured in the Good Food Guide, and was placed at number 18 in Restaurant magazine’s top 100 restaurants in the UK. Skosh is also a two AA Rosette holder and the proud owner of a Michelin Bib Gourmand (the only recipient of this award in York). Neil’s Indian family heritage and worldwide travels have helped sculpt his style, which reflects in his diverse menus, showcasing a refined yet playful style of cooking.

Owen, from Harrogate, competed in BBC MasterChef UK in 2023, finishing as a quarter finalist and he now works as a private chef using the freshest ingredients and exciting local produce combined with spices and herbs from his South African and Indian heritage. John Torode described Owen as a ‘flavour master’ after he produced two star dishes on MasterChef. Owen designs and creates incredible tasting food and regularly appears on stage at food festivals, sharing his passion for food with a whole new audience. More recently he has launched his own spice range under the Cook with Owen brand. The onion bhaji mix won a 2024 Great Taste Award, one of the industry’s highest accolades.

For 25 years, Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) has been at the heart of communities across the region, providing hope in the most difficult moments. The lifesaving charity provides rapid-response emergency care to the five million people living across Yorkshire’s three million acres. With two air support units, based at Nostell near Wakefield and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk, YAA’s helicopters can reach even the most remote locations within 20 minutes, bringing expert critical care to those who need it most.
As an independent charity, YAA relies entirely on public donations to keep its helicopters in the air and its crews at the frontline of emergency care. Every mission is only possible thanks to the generosity of its supporters, and in 2024, that support helped achieve incredible things. Last year, YAA’s critical care teams responded to more than 1,400 incidents, providing lifesaving care to more than 1,300 patients across Yorkshire. YAA’s highly skilled team brought hospital-level care directly to the scene, delivering 417 lifesaving interventions before transporting 949 patients to hospitals and major trauma centres for urgent specialist treatment. Every donation fuels YAA’s lifesaving mission, helping it reach more patients, save more lives, and remain ready for those who need it most.
