With centuries worth of fascinating history, there's so much to discover in this charming town

Here's what not to miss when you next visit.

Eat

The Pancake House’s ice creams, milkshakes and (of course) pancakes are always good and chocoholics will love Pateley Bridge’s Cocoa Joe’s outpost, an indie specialising in the making of hot and cold chocolate drinks. Olley’s Pizzeria is an authentic and friendly family restaurant with Italian food on the menu, while The Willow Restaurant serves traditional Yorkshire fare (you need to try their famous steak pie).

Sleep

The Sportsman’s Arms’ menu showcases locally-sourced produce but there are also 11 unique rooms and a full English to enjoy before heading out to explore. Harefield Hall is a glorious hotel with traditional country-style bedrooms and a brilliant beer garden (perfect for summer sipping). Check out their holiday cottages too. Bewerley Hall Farm is a Grade II-listed converted farmstead which has both bed and breakfast accommodation and self-catering cottages to choose from, and River View Pateley has the choice of River View Holiday Cottage for three, and Hill View Holiday Cottage for four guests, all surrounded by stunning countryside.

A trip to Pateley Bridge isn’t complete without stepping inside The Oldest Sweet Shop In The World – it’s been trading since 1827 and stocks all the classics. Yorkshire Born & Bread is another great find, selling homebaked products best washed down with a cup of Yorkshire Tea. Art lovers will want to browse the Claire Baxter Gallery to see her contemporary paintings and prints (all inspired by Yorkshire) and it’s worth popping by King Street Workshops which brings together a group of talented crafters including Fiona Mazza Ceramics.
