Everything You Need to Know about The Schoolrooms in Low Bradfield
Having just celebrated the first birthday of its late night Bar & Bistro, The Schoolrooms Café & Kitchen in Low Bradfield shares what visitors can expect this spring
It quickly became a popular spot for locals and visitors to the area, particularly when you could take full advantage of the extensive indoor and outdoor seating and indulge in a range of breakfast and lunch dishes as well as tasty coffee and cakes. In summer months, the playground and bouncy castle have always been popular with younger visitors too.
This time last year, a three-month long major renovation project took place to transform the venue, seeing the two-storey building completely overhauled with an additional kitchen built on the ground floor to double its capability. The biggest change though was in the neighbouring house, which was converted into a late night Bar & Bistro called Assembly. Laura Helliwell joined to manage the team (along with a trio of talented chefs and an army of wait staff) to take this place from good to great.
The venue is a modern, welcoming space with a colour palette of grand blues, rich burgundies and luxurious leather and gold furnishings. Tan leather seating complements aged wooden tables and industrial-style lighting adds further contemporary touches throughout the café. Assembly is split over multiple levels with two distinct dining areas; The Library and Caretaker’s as well as a spacious bar, mezzanine and tap room to create an exciting atmosphere for the evening crowd.
Assembly is the jewel in the Bradfield venue's crown and turns The Schoolrooms into an all-day venue. The Cafe & Kitchen opens daily from 9am until 5pm while the Bar & Bistro opens Wednesday to Sunday, from 4pm–11.30pm during the week and from 12pm at the weekends.
The talented team have devised an ever-changing a la carte menu that puts a modern twist on traditional British dining and uses seasonal ingredients, many of which are sourced from local Peak District and Sheffield suppliers.
Stand-out dishes on the current bistro menu include French onion soup with caramelised onions and gouda-topped croutons; black pudding with poached egg, red onion marmalade and hollandaise; and 10oz sirloin steak with garlic portobello mushrooms, Bradfield Brewery Blonde onion rings and fat chips. Alternatively, try the pan-fried seabass with chorizo, red onion, blistered cherry tomatoes, sautéed potatoes and lemon caper beurre blanc, followed by a classic sticky toffee pud with salted caramel sauce, pecans and vanilla gelato from their sister gelato shop Scoop (located just around the corner in the picturesque village of Low Bradfield).
April is Assembly’s first birthday and to celebrate the success of the past year they threw a giant party! Looking ahead to the rest of the year, their upcoming events include a monthly Bottomless Brunch sitting, weekly Sunday Roast service, regular live music and they’ll be streaming the Euros all summer long. Keep an eye on their socials or subscribe to their newsletter via the website for all the latest details.
Assembly can also be booked for special events, from small, intimate private dining experiences to special birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations of life and even weddings. Get in touch via their website to find out more.
