Interior Designers Furnish & Fettle on Where They Get Their Inspiration From
We speak to interior designers Furnish & Fettle
Tell us about winning the best stand prize at Living North’s Christmas Fair?
That was really exciting! It was the very first time we have done a fair so we had absolutely no
expectations of winning anything. Putting up the stand was a lot of hard work, but we pride
ourselves on our displays and we wanted people to stop and say “wow!” because that is what we
are all about, and winning means that we achieved that!
How did you first get started?
Furnish & Fettle was born when Glyn (my husband and business partner) and I bought what was
James Brindley in Wetherby, taking on the experienced design team that was already in place.
What services do you offer?
We offer everything from help to choose finishing touches, such as lamps and mirrors in our
showrooms, right through to offering a full interior design service, with project management of the
implementation if required.
Where do you get your inspiration from when starting a new project?
The client is always our starting point and we spend time with them in their property, getting to
know them and understanding what it is they are trying to achieve, and how they want to be able to
live in the space. The style of the property, prominent features or furniture and artwork that the
client wants to include often provide a starting point. Here at Furnish & Fettle, we are all
obsessed with design and keep up with all the latest developments and trends by attending trade
fairs and design shows, reading magazines and doing a lot of scrolling through Instagram!
You are attending Living North LIVE at York Racecourse in March, do you have anything special planned for your stand?
Unlike the Christmas Fair, which was more of a shopping fair, we are planning to display what we
do best at Living North LIVE in March. We will be creating a mini room set, which will include a
statement chair, as well as displaying visuals of completed projects.
What are your plans for the future?
We are a family-run business and the reason we started it was to do something we love whilst
also being around for our children, so our plans in the short term are just to keep doing more of the
same, and growing our business bit by bit.
What do you think will be trending in the coming season?
Bespoke upholstery, be it chairs or sofas, in two different fabrics, or luxury upholstered beds. Using
fabulous fabrics on furniture makes a real statement and adds uniqueness to any scheme. As we
all become more environmentally aware, there is also a move towards embracing authentic,
recycled and handmade furniture and a move away from mass-produced items.
