Spend your long summer Bank Holiday weekend in the best ways

From must-not-miss fun festivals to a dose of nostalgia, what will you be doing this weekend?
We Will Rock You Promo We Will Rock You

Fist Pump
You mustn’t miss the smash hit musical We Will Rock You, by Queen and Ben Elton, as it returns to the UK, and more than 16 million theatregoers (since 2002) will tell you why. With 24 of Queen’s biggest hits performed throughout this show, we’re sure you’ll be singing along. Book your seats at Newcastle Theatre Royal before this Saturday to see this multi-million-pound show live on stage this weekend.

Time Travel
Eden Camp museum comes alive this weekend with re-enactors on every corner. You can chat with the medics, try your hand at ration recipes and even explore the escape hatch of a Sherman tank. There’ll be live music in the engine shed to dance to too – why not go all-out and join the many who love to get dressed up in proper period clothing?

Food Glorious Food
This Friday and Saturday, things are getting serious at Wylam Brewery. Their events, pitting the best local foodie producers against each other, always prove popular – and they’re calling their new event, Battle Royale, the ‘best of the best’. With more than 15 vendors and plenty of refreshments, you’re invited to try new flavours and pick your favourites. Over in Malton, things are equally scrumptious right across the weekend as foodies are planning to head to Malton Food Lovers Festival. This three-day festival (Saturday to Monday) will host artisan stalls, street food, talks, tastings, celebrity chefs (hello, Tommy Banks), demos, a festival bar and live music. Enjoy!

Festivals Aren’t Over Just Yet
Festival season is showing no signs of stopping. Even if you’ve missed out on tickets to Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend, you can take your pick from Hull’s Freedom Festival (a stage for artists and performers from all over the world) from Friday, Gateshead Summer Fest on Saturday and Sunday, plus York and Whitby’s Bank Holiday Weekend Festivals across the Bank Holiday weekend.

Get the Drinks In
If you’re one of the lucky ones with time off work this weekend, make the most of it with your friends and family and take your pick from the North’s best bars, pubs and restaurants to gather in. Try these brilliant beer gardens and terraces in Yorkshire or these cool North East coastal spots.

Book Ahead
With only a week to go until Teesside Restaurant Week returns (from 5th September), you’re going to want to start booking your tables to eat out for less than £20. We’ve got our eye on the menus at The Impeccable Pig and Tomahawk’s outposts, and we’re sure restaurants will be booked out fast.

Go Racing
A raceday is always a great way to spend a bank holiday weekend and this Friday, Thirsk Racecourse are hosting an All Creatures Great and Small themed family day to keep the whole family entertained. Monday sees Ripon Racecourse host their family fun day with plenty of added attractions including balloon modelling, face painting, barrel train rides and inflatables.
