How to Spend Your Mother’s Day Weekend
What's on
March 2022
Reading time 5 Minutes

There’s plenty of ways to treat your mum, aunt, gran – and all the important ladies in your life – this Mother’s Day weekend

And luckily you’ve an extra hour on Sunday to help you fit it all in!
Rigoletto, Theatre Royal, Northern Opera

Take a Stroll
Don’t stay cooped up inside. As sunnier days are hopefully on the horizon, get some fresh air… Search ‘Walk this Way’ on livingnorth.com for all the inspiration you need, and new routes to try. Taking your pooch? Search ‘It’s a Dog’s Life’ for our canine columnist Winnie’s best rambles.

See a Show
Rigoletto is loathed and mocked and the only thing he lives for is his beautiful daughter Gilda, who is hidden away. When she is discovered by the predatory Duke, Rigoletto seeks vengeance. Passionate music and dramatic theatrics tell this powerful story at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal this Saturday. Get your tickets here

Spring Recipes

Gather Round the Small Screen
Staying in? No worries. There’s plenty on the box to keep you entertained. Kick off your Saturday night with Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway off air last weekend while sports fans were hooked on the final day of Six Nations rugby, but it’s always great fun. Don’t miss the Dancing On Ice final on ITV this Sunday – the talent is so good this year, and we just can’t choose a winner between all three finalists: Regan Gascoigne, Brendan Cole and Kimberley Wyatt. In the meantime, there’s plenty to binge. The final series of Killing Eve is one for your watchlist, and if you haven’t caught up yet, BBC iPlayer has you covered. The same goes for Peaky Blinders. Meanwhile dramas Top Boy on Netflix, The Dropout on Disney+, and We Crashed which tells the tale of the rise and spectacular fall of WeWork, on Apple TV are all getting good reviews.

Play Chef
Treat your mum to a sumptuous meal when you try out these sensational spring recipes.

Change Your Clock
Don’t forget the clocks spring forward by one hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March (that’s Mother’s Day this year) meaning lighter, longer days are ahead – hooray!
