Luxury nature-based retreat Saltmoore opens its doors on 14th November, welcoming guests to discover this picturesque corner of North Yorkshire

Perfectly positioned between the sweeping sea and the vast North York Moors, Saltmoore encompasses two brand new hotels with 72 bedrooms in total, a state-of-the-art spa with treatment journeys by Wildsmith Skin, and an array of dining experiences.

ACCOMMODATION

The heart of the hotel is found at ‘Saltmoore House’, a sophisticated and elegant 43-bedroom hotel with views over the landscaped gardens and Orchard. Bedrooms are spacious in size, ranging from more cosy Snug bedrooms to larger Master bedrooms, as well as four stand-out suites with interiors inspired by their natural surroundings, each equipped with an emperor bed and standalone tub. Those looking for an indulgent stay can take refuge in The Nest Suite, a tranquil hideaway complete with reading nook in the original 19th century hall, overlooking the orchard from its top-floor vantage point.

The Beach House is a 29-bedroom property just a stone’s throw away from Saltmoore House which provides laidback luxury accommodation for families and couples alike. Opening in 2025, the Beach House is home to Coastal Classic Balcony bedrooms, with views out to the local woodland, and Coastal Classic Outdoor Bath rooms are equipped with an outdoor tub. Two spacious suites showcase freestanding bathtubs to relax in.

FOOD AND DRINK

Led by head chef Adam Maddock, the former head chef of The Fife Arms in Braemar, dining at Saltmoore champions locally-sourced produce via seasonal menus which highlight the best of the UK’s natural larder. Joining Maddock as consulting chef is multi-award winning chef Tommy Banks – one of the UK’s most innovative restaurateurs behind the Michelin-starred The Black Swan at Oldstead, Michelin-starred Roots York and award-winning gastropub The Abbey Inn. Born and raised in Oldstead, across the moors from Saltmoore, chef Banks’ farming background and commitment to local produce, alongside his track-record of creating exciting dining experiences, complements chef Maddock’s food philosophy which is rooted in serving simple, unfussy dishes executed with impeccable technique.

Open to guests and locals alike, Saltmoore’s culinary offerings comprise two bars and four food outlets including a fine dining restaurant, The Brasserie at Saltmoore, Wellness Café and, in the future, a pizza restaurant.

The Brasserie at Saltmoore offers laid-back dining, featuring inventive twists on classics across the menu – highlights include smoked haddock Scotch eggs, tempura cod cheeks, butter chicken pie and Mangalica Cumberland sausages with sage and apple butter mash. Dishes spotlight ingredients from across the region, with fresh fish and seafood from local fisherman and heather honey from the moors.

Formal dining room, Calluna, will open in Saltmoore House in early 2025, and will represent Maddock and Banks’ dedication to elevated yet uncomplicated cuisine. With a hyper-seasonal menu, guests can expect an unparalleled dining experience inspired by the moors and coast.

Saltmoore House is also home to two bars serving traditional and speciality cocktails garnished with foraged ingredients and botanicals grown on site in the kitchen garden, bringing the flavours of Yorkshire full circle.

SPA AND WELLBEING

A holistic haven, The Sanctuary at Saltmoore brings Saltmoore’s nature-based wellbeing vision to life for overnight guests and spa day visitors. The state-of-the-art spa comes complete with an indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, relaxation room, as well as five treatment rooms that includes one double treatment room. All guests also have access to the hotel’s gym equipped to cater to hybrid and functional training modalities supplemented by the latest in sports recovery – a cryotherapy chamber and Brass Monkey Ice Bath.

LOCATION

Saltmoore sits upon a verdant 85-acre estate and woodland between the sweeping sea and the vast North York Moors. A short drive from the picturesque town of Whitby and a stone’s throw from the quaint village of Sandsend, the hotel offers guests a much-needed luxury refuge from which to explore the unspoilt coastlines, cobbled streets and rolling North Yorkshire countryside.

Inviting guests to connect with the outdoors, Saltmoore offers a range of activities across the estate and beyond with a focus on wellness, wildlife and nature. Guests can enjoy kitchen garden tours and picturesque picnics in the grounds or venture beyond to the North York Moors for walking, cycling and horse riding along the hundreds of paths and tracks that cross the 500 square miles of land. Come evening, as one of only 21 designated International Dark Sky Reserves in the world, the North York Moors are ideal for stargazing and sometimes even Northern Lights spotting. Turning towards the coast, guests can enjoy cold water sea dips and surfing along the sand shores of Sandsend Beach.
