Local Children Shine at the Snowman in Concert this Christmas
Four young performers from the North East have been chosen to sing the Snowman's iconic solo for families at The Glasshouse this Christmas
For all of four of them this is the first time they have had the opportunity to sing with an orchestra in a venue like the Glasshouse.
Austin Wilkinson-Martin from Throckley is one of the talented young singers taking part. He says that the largest audience he had previously performed to was at his school nativity.
‘I have not performed with an orchestra before or in such a grand setting as the Glasshouse. When I first found out that I had been offered the part I was really shocked and I was shaking a little bit. Now it’s sunk in, I feel really proud of myself, and I am really excited to be performing in front of such a huge crowd of people accompanied by the grand orchestra,’ he says.
Eleanor Slorach, who will be conducting the performance, thinks that the show is a brilliant way to engage young people with live orchestral music and to bring young people and their families into The Glasshouse. ‘It's great that a young person sings the famous 'Walking in the Air' solo on stage, so that their peers watching and listening can see someone their own age performing,’ she says.
For a good dose of nostalgia and the chance to open young eyes (and ears) to the magic of live music this Christmas, you can catch performances of the Snowman at the Glasshouse from the 22nd December right up until Christmas Eve.
