Meet The Mother Daughter Team Behind Mr. Munro – Lynne and Jess
Mother-and-daughter team Lynne and Jess have been suiting and booting the fine men of Newcastle since 2017, we find out what makes their partnership tick
‘We’re currently working by appointment only which means we give customers time by themselves to take a look at what we offer and ask any questions, we aren’t pushy sales people at all so there’s never any pressure for customers to buy.’ says Jess. ‘We get loads of feedback from our customers saying how good the experience has been and how they were made to feel relaxed and nothing was ever a problem, we do get quite a few customers who are nervous about the whole experience so the last thing we want to do is add extra pressure.’
With mum Lynne running appointments and daughter Jess handling the online and sales side, this crack team owe lots to their strong family relationship. While they love bouncing ideas off each other, they do make a point of getting out of the 24/7 business headspace, ‘We’ve always got ideas that we want to discuss but we really try to switch off when we can. It can be difficult when it’s your own business as there’s so much to think about but we think it’s all about balance.’
Keeping it in the family – originally Mr. Munro was born as a neighbouring venture to Lynne’s Bridal shop with her son-in-law acting as a hub for men everywhere that needed a bit of style in their wardrobe.
‘There was always talk about the Groom side of things when I had the Bridal shop, originally my son-in-law was working with me when we first set Mr. Munro up but he was running his own Digital Marketing business (Squidgy) at the same time and needed to take a step back from Mr. Munro once we had launched.’
As a small, close-knit team, when it comes to Mother’s Day, Lynne and Jess agree that the best place you can take your mum is somewhere cosy – and independent.
‘There are too many places to choose from! There’s so many good places in the North East to go but we particularly like supporting independent businesses when we can.’
Jess and Lynne have not only made sure Mr. Munro survived the pandemic, but they actually grew the business – recently launching their popular suit hire service, starting at £110 for a men’s three piece suit. This mother and daughter team know their stuff, and to that end we couldn’t let them go without asking some well-needed advice on the perfect tie.
‘We do love a floral Liberty tie but we also work with a great local company called Victory and Innsbruck who provide tie sets in knitted, textured and paisley prints we’ve had amazing feedback on them,’ says Jess. ‘They come in a huge range of colours and we can include matching pocket squares, socks, cufflinks, etcetera – which also work really nicely as gift sets for the Groomsmen,’ Jess concludes.
