To say the Eagles have been flying high this year is regrettably an over-statement. Finding it difficult to find their legs let alone wings has meant a really tough season. This is a real pity for one of the city’s most appealing teams to watch. It’s not that they’re wildly off the pace either, just missing out more often than not leaving them perched precariously one off the bottom of the league table. But they have games in hand and as ever provide a thrilling atmosphere, if you have time get along and support them.

It’s fair to say that the financial disasters that befell Wasps and Worcester have made a right horlicks of the rugby season, but having said that I cannot recall a more compact league table since the professional era began way back. The Falcons have taken some big scalps especially at home and have played some brilliant rugby. If you fancy a really fun day at some fantastic end-of-season prices get along to Kingston Park.

With no major cup distractions the pressure for a European spot, or a playoff spot, or just saving your status, is hugely significant. As spring arrives there’s a huge amount to play for. Points against Manchester clubs seem essential and an absolute must win perhaps when Spurs come to the Toon. Boro have a really challenging fixture against Burnley and a win would be a great result against the season’s foremost team in the Championship.
