November's Food News from the North East
The new openings you need to know about
Café Society
FRED’S at Fenwick
FRED’S at Fenwick, Newcastle is the brand new café on the lower ground floor that you need to visit now. Inspired by Fred Fenwick’s passion for French culture, this is a modern take on the classic tea room which opened on the site in 1911. Enjoy fresh-pressed juice, coffee, light bites, pastries made in-store and their signature ‘supreme’ filled croissant sandwiches.
Working Their Magic
Sorcerer Coffee
After getting a whole new look, Sorcerer Coffee in Newcastle is back and better than ever. Tucked away behind Newcastle train station, this has become one of our go-to spots for lunch, now serving excellent subs from Belly of The Beast on its streamlined menu (order the salted beef sub – you won’t regret it). We recommend ordering ahead to avoid disappointment.
Go East
Taipan Asia
Darlington has recently welcomed its newest Asian fusion restaurant. Taipan Asia (spread over two floors and with a Champagne bar and two cocktail bars), serves a great range of Japanese, Thai, Korean and Chinese dishes both classic and contemporary in style. Modern and laidback inside, this is a great spot for late night dinner in the heart of Darlington
The Perfect Spot
Elkwater
We recently found our new favourite spot in Northumberland, offering everything from breakfast, brunch and sharing platters to cocktails and dinner with live music in the evenings. Elkwater in Darras Hall opened its doors to much excitement over the summer. The food here takes loose inspiration from French-Canadian cuisine and as well as food, there’s a homeware and gift store on site.
Hole in One
The Keepers at Matfen Hall
Adding to its already impressive offering, Matfen Hall have recently launched their state-of-the-art golf clubhouse and dining destination. The Keepers offers a world-class golfing facility with a superb yet relaxed dining experience overlooking the course, where you can enjoy stone-baked pizzas and steaks straight from the grill. Boasting a mezzanine bar and a panoramic balcony, this is the perfect spot to unwind in Northumberland.
