Pantomime Review: Mother Goose at The Customs House, South Shields
It's panto season, and we head to The Customs House to meet Mother Goose
Dame Bella’s Zoo is facing hard times when her nephew Dennis stumbles across a goose whilst walking across Cleadon Hills. Priscilla, the goose, seems to be the answer to all of their problems, but they’ve got the evil demon gander to deal with now, who’s determined to steal Priscilla away.
We’re rooting for magical spirit Twyleth to bring us a happy ending to this panto… and as every panto-goer knows, there’s always a happy ending.
The Customs House is transformed into Cooksonville and we take our seats with excitement, having never attended a panto at this theatre before! Immediately, we feel part of the action, especially sitting so close to the stage. The fabulous cast keep audience members of all ages engaged throughout, and their costumes are fantastic.
The creative set and catchy songs add to this production’s charm and the little goose is our favourite character, bringing so much joy to this take on the story of Mother Goose. But, of course, North East icon Ray Spencer MBE is always the star of The Customs House panto and this year he returns for his 30th (50 years since his first!). His performance as Dame Bella goes down a storm.
The magic of this unique and brilliantly fun panto has put us in the Christmas spirit, and there’s still chance to see it, so don’t miss out!
Mother Goose plays at The Customs House until 5th January. Book your tickets at customshouse.co.uk.
