This converted barn set in a peaceful valley sleeps six guests

The Magical Barn is a gorgeous holiday home near Haltwhistle, Northumberland. This charming barn conversion dates back to 1760, and is set in a delightful enclosed courtyard surrounded by trees, making it the perfect place for a relaxing staycation away from the hustle and bustle.

On the ground floor is an open-plan living space, full of rustic charm, with a wood burning stove. The living room also has a flat-screen Smart TV and large corner sofa, ideal for cosy nights in. The dining table overlooks the garden, and in the heart of the room, the kitchen houses a large island plus modern amenities. Exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings throughout add to the tranquil retreat’s historical charm.

From the living space a private decked balcony can be accessed, complete with patio furniture and gorgeous views over the valley’s stream and mini waterfall.

A wrought-iron spiral staircase leads to the lower ground floor, where there are two spacious bedrooms with super king beds, which can be split into twins if needed. Also on this floor is the family bathroom with roll-top bath. On the first floor is a galleried living space which has another Smart TV and a sofa bed – a cot and highchair are available on request.

Outside, the back garden has a courtyard seating area, and is complete with fire pit and barbecue for outdoor drinking and dining. The grounds are gorgeous, with a total of 11 acres to explore, featuring a stream, meadow and walled garden and abundant wildlife. There is private parking for two cars, plus a bike store.

Nearby Haltwhistle has plenty of pubs and local amenities, as well as a railway station. The towns of Brampton and Hexham are an easy drive away, with their independent shops, markets, and restaurants. There’s also plenty to explore in the surrounding countryside, including Hadrian’s Wall and the rugged beauty of Northumberland National Park.
