The Northallerton Inn boasts a family-friendly restaurant and bar and treats for your four-legged friend, who is more than welcome to stay too. Katch is a great seafood restaurant but also a 10-bedroom boutique hotel at the heart of the action on Northallerton’s high street.

Northallerton's Everyman outpost boasts a four-screen cinema in its retail and leisure destination, The Treadmills, which promises a schedule of blockbuster films, documentaries and live screenings and hand-stretched pizzas and small plates, from hot honey halloumi to tempura prawns. Culture vultures will also love The Forum where you can see live comedy, music and dance shows as well as screenings. Outdoorsy folk, or those who fancy trying something new, should head to Thimbleby Shooting Ground, while Mount Grace Priory is the perfect place to get away from it all.
YARM
Don’t be fooled by the size of this pretty market town – it’s packed full of great shops and cafés to discover

Café Nossa, Yarm’s continental café deli is perfect for brunch and lunch – their breakfast frittatas and bagels are always a winner, but you’ll want to browse their counter for Portuguese pastries and tarts. Hobo Coffee House is a go-to for a caffeine fix and their cinnamon bun banana bread is a must-try. The ice cream at Treats of Yarm is delicious, Cena Trattoria is a good Italian to try, and there’s a Tomahawk outpost for steak-lovers. If you’re seeking the perfect parmo, The Blue Bell is the place to be.
