Blackfriars

Boasting two AA Rosettes for its skilful British cooking, this former Dominican friary has a well-known reputation for food in the North East and has an impressive range of spaces, including a Banquet Hall, the Parlour Bar, a restaurant, and even a brewery. For a private dining experience, you’re spoiled for choice. The Banquet Hall can hold 50 guests (with a minimum of 12), the dining table in the Cookery School seats 14, and the Tasting Room can accommodate 18 guests. The Curious Mr Fox

An eccentric and fun restaurant just off of Durham’s Framwellgate Bridge which offers small plates, snacks and really good cocktails, with a number of spaces for guests to choose from for a more intimate setting. The Foxes Club has space for 20 seated guests and also gives exclusive access to a private bar. For larger celebrations, choose The Ivy Room or The Oyster Room (which also has its own private bar).

Gaucho

In a Grade II-listed building in the heart of the city, the sophisticated and stylish Gaucho serves delicious and authentic Argentinian cuisine, specialising in steak and wine. There is a late-night cocktail bar here and for a private experience guests can choose between two dining spaces. The Bay Horse

With a well-deserved spot in the Michelin Guide, this former coaching inn serves incredible contemporary dishes using the very best seasonal and local produce – the French rabbit loin is not to be missed. In the Seagrave Dining Room upstairs, 12 guests can enjoy private dining, and the Northgate Dining Room has a 20-foot Victorian dinner table that can accommodate 14 guests. The Bay Horse also offers the optional extra of welcome drinks and canapés to make your celebration extra special.
