Review: A Divinely Rustic Treehouse Retreat in Northumberland
We embark on a journey to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life at Woodland Chase Glamping's gorgeous Treehouse retreat
Woodland Chase Glamping is an adult-only escape consisting of the Fieldhouse & Spa, the Treehouse, Saddler’s Cabin and the dog-friendly Crofter’s Cabin, all individually handcrafted. A family-run affair, the whole family played a part in creating Woodland Chase, building spaces that complement the surrounding area and using as many materials from the farm as they could all crafted with meticulous skill that's very much more Michelangelo than anything IKEA.
Climbing the spiral staircase to the Treehouse, we immediately feel the embrace of the cosy wooden interiors. The carefully created space includes underfloor heating, a Bose speaker and large sofa, whilst the clearly lovingly handmade, bespoke wooden features add to the rustic charm. It’s instantly easy to imagine ourselves cosying up by the woodburner playing the games thoughtfully provided by the fire and we quickly discover the fabulous bottle of fizz and spa robes that come with every stay as we settle in for the evening.
The Treehouse’s ample decking runs around two sides underneath the overhanging trees and we have our very own private wood-fired hot tub and fire pit. Obviously it doesn’t take us long before we are sipping fizz in the warm, wood-fired water, under a canopy of stars. It's not just a soak; it's a dip into paradise. It’s so tranquil, the only soundtrack is the crackle of the fire as it heats the water, which transforms this simple dip into a truly memorable experience.
Curse the 7am alarm all you like, but there's something special about witnessing a (coffee-fuelled) sunrise in the Northumberland countryside and we are up early to make sure we don’t miss it from our treetop vantage point. With every Woodland Chase retreat comes a gorgeous hamper – our ticket to a locally-sourced, al fresco breakfast in our treetop dining area – and we practically bounce out of bed each morning, eager to discover which delightful treat from the local Running Fox bakery awaits us.

Post-breakfast, we're ready for a day filled with exploration as we are just a stone's throw from the awe-inspiring Northumbrian coast and countryside. We head first to Embleton beach and the stunningly beautiful ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, only a 20-minute drive away. A windswept walk along the sandy beach leads us to the now well-known Ship Inn at Low Newton for a pint and a sandwich to combat the chill before heading back inland to Alnwick where we wander around the world-famous garden and quickly pop into Barter Books to find some reading material for the evening ahead.
We are lucky enough to be here for a few days and and thanks to the utter peacefulness of this place we soon switch off and quickly slip into a pattern of sleep, explore, eat, repeat, punctuated by several moonlit dips in the hot tub.
‘It’s a Woodland Chase magical experience that
seamlessly blends the best of the natural world with
all the creature comforts of contemporary living’
The great thing about its location is that the adventure doesn't stop with the gorgeous accommodation. You’ll find fantastic cafés, charming pubs, and great restaurants all within easy reach of Woodland Chase. We spend a lazy Sunday afternoon at the nearby Northumberland Arms, (less than a mile’s walk down a farm track) where the Sunday roast rivals the best home cooking – pairing it with a smooth red from their extensive wine list makes it the perfect way to end the week.
For those seeking a perfect blend of luxury retreat and an indulgent escape from the everyday hustle and bustle, this is an escape like no other. It’s a Woodland Chase magical experience that seamlessly blends the best of the natural world with all the creature comforts of contemporary living.
