With five ensuite bedrooms, two kitchens and a cinema room, Saville Lodge in Gosforth has all the space you could want and more to spare

The first thing to recommend Saville Lodge is its location. Right in the heart of a Gosforth, it is within easy walking distance of both South Gosforth and Ilford Road Metro stations, and only a five-minute walk from Newcastle’s Town Moor, as well as all the lovely shops and eateries along Gosforth’s High Street. Despite its central location, the house makes no compromises on size. Indeed, the property was originally two semi-detached houses which were combined when it was renovated in 2005.

Entering the house through the lobby, you will arrive in a large entrance hall with elegant marble floors and a large return staircase leading to the first floor. In addition to the stairs, one of the unique features of Saville Lodge is an electronically operated lift to the upper floors.

From here, double doors lead into the living room, which has a flame-effect log fire. This is set between two of the distinctive nave-shaped windows that give the house its period charm. The study next door has been wired for use as a cinema.

From here, another set of double doors lead into the dining room. Doors may seem like a somewhat mundane detail, but it is worth pointing out the way in which the ground floor rooms use large glass doors to create the suggestion of open-plan living. When opened out, the doors ensure the ground floor becomes the perfect fluid space for entertaining large numbers of guests.

In this vein, the dining room and orangery blend seamlessly together via French doors and a glass partition wall. The orangery is an impressive space with room for both sitting and dining areas and a large vaulted skylight.

Also to the rear of the house is the open-plan kitchen/living area, which has a large stone-topped kitchen island. Adjacent to the kitchen is a ‘utility room’ – thought most would probably call it a second kitchen. This includes a second hob, sink and oven, and leads into a separate garden room, with the latter being an ideal space for storing muddy shoes and outdoor gear. The ground floor also has two WCs.

The house has two further floors with five ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom is located on the second floor. It is differentiated from the other bedrooms by a huge, luxurious bathroom suite. This features a walk-in shower, a large oval tub, twin sinks and a generous mirrored wardrobe. The corresponding space on the second floor provides an additional dressing room for one of the bedrooms.

Outside, the property benefits from secluded grounds which have been beautifully landscaped to include trees, shrubs, herbaceous borders and a fountain. There are two covered parking bays in addition to a substantial drive with space for multiple vehicles. Electronically operated security gates ensure privacy and peace of mind.
