What To Do This Long Easter Weekend
We don't know about you but we could get used to a four-day weekend
Be a hero…
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a day as a family, The Great North Museum: Hancock has opened a brand new, interactive, fantasy adventure exhibition in which visitors become the hero. Part immersive story, part live-action game, ‘Myth Quest’ allows players to take on the role of an adventurer, exploring myths and monsters throughout the museum to complete their quests. Those who complete their quest will earn their place in the Hall of Heroes.
Immerse yourself in art…
Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at York St Mary’s is where you can step inside the paintings, world and mind of the 19th century impressionist painter. The multimedia experience tells of Van Gogh’s life and his creations through projections, recreations and interactive elements of his artworks around the historic exhibition space. Paintings come alive with digital animation and an emotive soundtrack, to create a world in which the visitor sees through the eyes of Van Gogh for a 35-minute, fully-immersive, 360-degree experience. For a sneak peek, check out our reel here.
See a show…
World Theatre Day might have just passed, but it’s always a good idea to see a show at the weekend and it seems for Easter there is one tale in particular that’s taking over the stage. From a ballet to panto versions, Rapunzel is being performed at Playhouse Leeds, Whitley Bay Playhouse, Tyne Theatre & Opera House and Cast in Doncaster over the long weekend. Whichever performance you go for, it’s sure to be a hair-raisingly good way to enjoy Easter.

Look up at the sky…
This Saturday join local astronomer Liam Reid and experience the amazing dark skies above Kielder Forest. This public stargazing event is a great way to ease yourself into the immense topic that is space. Expect a gentle introduction to all things astronomical with the opportunity to ask those big, far-reaching questions that have always puzzled you. The event includes a presentation on various astronomical topics, before then being able to observe the night sky through telescopes (weather permitting).
Support from the sidelines…
On Friday, Sunderland take on Hull City at the Stadium of Light and the Championship match is one not to miss for home fans. On Saturday Newcastle United will play their third match of the week as they take on Brentford, but the Premier League match is away and won’t be shown on TV, so listen on the radio for live updates. Meanwhile, Leeds United v Crystal Palace has been rescheduled to this Sunday. Taking place at Elland Road, why not try to get down to the stadium and support from the stands?
