There's nothing that will get you more in the mood for Christmas than putting up your Christmas tree, and there's no denying there is something especially festive about choosing a real tree

Here are some of our favourite places to find your perfect Christmas tree, but it's worth checking beforehand with each supplier when their trees become available.

NORTH EAST

EDELWEISS CHRISTMAS TREES
There are usually thousands of trees on offer here so whether you’re looking for a Norway Spruce, Lodgepole Pine or Nordmann Fir, they’ll have something for you. With a grower exclusive to them, they always have plenty of stock, helping to bring the Christmas spirit to as many homes as possible. Why not collect some of their free off-cuts to take home and make your very own wreath?

WHELLY HILL FARM
The family at Whelly Hill Farm have been selling real Christmas trees for the past 18 years, so they know exactly what they’re talking about. They supply a wide range of varieties and sizes, going up to 20 feet, and the selection consists of Nordmann Fir, Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce and Scots Pine. You can order online (from 10th November) and the farm will be open for trees and for click and collect from 24th November. Local delivery (up to 20 miles) is £15.

WINDMILL FARM CHRISTMAS TREES
A family-run business on a working farm, celebrating 30 years, and 20 years of selling beautiful, fresh Christmas trees with a selection of different trees available including Nordmann and Fraser Fir, all netted and carried to your car (they offer a same day delivery service too). EAST GRANGE FARM
For those looking for a Nordmann Fir Christmas tree this year, look no further. Known for their uniform shape and superior needle retention, East Grange get their trees from an award-winning grower in North Yorkshire and with a new supply cut and delivered each week, you know theirs are as fresh as could be. Alongside trees, they also sell stands, decorations and homemade wreaths, as well as a selection of pot-grown trees.

NORTHUMBRIA CHRISTMAS TREES
A family-owned business, Northumbria Christmas Trees are dedicated to growing top-quality Nordmann Fir to the highest standards and practices. As a specialised low volume grower, they give maximum attention to each individual tree and as such they are all hand-trimmed, -shaped and -harvested. They also practice sustainable growing practices, meaning for every tree harvested another is planted. Trees are available from 28th November but deliveries can start as early as 10th November for online orders.

COWELL’S GARDEN CENTRE
Family-owned since 1978, Cowell’s know how important Christmas is for families and as such want to help make it the most wonderful time of year. With an impressive choice of trees, a covered shopping area, and multiple Christmas helpers on hand, heading to Cowell’s is a festive treat in itself. Not to mention, they cut the bottoms off the trees and net them before putting them into customers’ vehicles, and offer local delivery too.

CROFT CHRISTMAS TREES

SCOTT’S HOUSE FARM

BROOMHALL CHRISTMAS TREES
Based on a farm on the outskirts of Newcastle, this family-run business has been helping people find their perfect tree for over 36 years, and if they’ve learnt anything over this time it’s that everyone’s perfect tree is different. DURHAM CHRISTMAS TREES
For a unique, festive family experience head to Durham Christmas Trees. Take your time to wander through the plantation before picking your perfect sustainably-grown tree – these zero-mile trees have never travelled before leaving the farm. Once you have chosen your tree, simply tag it and it will then be cut down for you to take home or for delivery, to keep it as fresh as possible. Their PYO fresh-cut trees are Nordmann Firs and sizes range from 3ft to 11ft.

BAWTRY FOREST CHRISTMAS TREES
As Yorkshire (and Nottinghamshire’s) largest supplier of locally-grown premium Christmas trees, Bawtry Forest know what they’re talking about when it comes to these green giants (up to 25 feet). RABY CHRISTMAS TREES
From 25th November, you can take your pick from a large selection of freshly-chopped trees from Raby Estate’s Christmas tree plantation, alongside fresh wreaths and foliage. Make an occasion of it and enjoy a hot cocoa in the café before browsing their jam-packed Christmas shop. After the festivities are over, you can return your Christmas tree to be recycled into chippings for use across the estate too.

METHLEY ESTATE
Methley Estate planted their first Christmas tree in 1996. Fast forward to now and the farm has 18,000 trees growing at any one time… so there are plenty to choose from! Whether you prefer to select from the pre-cut trees in the barn (all displayed without nets so you can see their shape) or browse the plantation before cutting your own tree from the field, the trees will be available from 18th November.

RIPPONDEN CHRISTMAS TREE FARM
Ripponden Christmas Tree Farm plantation was established from scratch with annual plantings, with the Nordman Fir making up about 75 percent of everything that is grown here (reflecting its popularity with customers) while the remainder of trees are a mixture of traditional Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce and Fraser Fir, and the trees are all ready for inspection in the farm’s huge barn.

DALBY FOREST
Wrap up warm, pull on your boots and head to Dalby Forest to find your Christmas tree this year. Always a treasured family moment, full of festive fun, you can choose from British grown Normann Fir or Norway Spruce up to 10 feet tall! With 100 years of forestry experience, there are plenty of experts on hand to help you choose the perfect tree and the money raised from your tree will go to help Forestry England maintain their forests. Growing Christmas trees takes years of investment and careful management, and at Scampston Estate each year their young trees are meticulously hand shaped and pruned in order to encourage the tree to branch and gradually achieve the full appearance of a quality Christmas tree. Head to Scampston to pick your perfectly proportioned tree – for each one harvested another is planted in its place, ensuring the production is entirely sustainable.

YORK CHRISTMAS TREES
This family business have over 25 years of experience growing and selling Christmas trees (they are champion growers, providing the tree for Downing Street) and provide good old-fashioned value for money, with a friendly service. Celebrating 20 years of growing trees, and opening on the weekends of 11th–12th and 18th–19th of November this year for anyone keen to get first pick and to choose and tag their tree in the field, you can collect your tree anytime from the 23rd November when the farm will open every day.
