From Sardinian delights to Japanese fine dining, take a trip around the world without leaving Sheffield

Sheffield is known for its diversity and its food scene is no exception. We've rounded up some of our favourite spots serving up food from around the world.
mezze-style small plates Antler

Antler

206–210 Middlewood Road, Sheffield S6 1TD
0114 249 0443
theantler.uk
The Antler promises to provide diners with a culinary journey traversing the breadth of Iran’s rich and diverse cuisine. Our favourite things here are the mezze-style small plates, with familiar options like hummus (their version also incorporates walnuts, sumac, green sultanas and lemon zest) and stuffed vine leaves sitting alongside kashk o bademjan: pan-fried aubergine mashed with dried mint and whey yoghurt, topped with walnuts.

Domo

Eagle Works, 34–36 Cotton Mill Walk, Little Kelham, Sheffield S3 8DH

Good food, good cocktails and good times are all on the menu at this authentic Sardinian restaurant, bar and deli. Stop by for their aperitivo hour between 5pm and 7pm from Monday to Thursday, or book a table for dinner and enjoy a variety of interesting antipasti, pastas and pizzas followed by the best Italian patisserie and desserts.

Koko

503 Ecclesall Road, Sharrow, Sheffield S11 8PR
0114 266 2843
kokorestaurant.co.uk
This restaurant pushes the boundaries of Japanese cuisine, offering Asian fusion food that you’re not likely to find anywhere else in the area. The Koko sushi selection is always a winner here, with a full vegan and vegetarian selection too.

Ashoka

307 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield S11 8NX
0114 268 3029
ashoka1967.com
Foodies of Sheffield have been spoiled with authentic Indian dishes at this beautiful restaurant since 1967, but there’s nothing old-fashioned about the food here. Expect great takes on your favourites, like their 48-hour marinated chicken tikka, and delights like their legendary 1960s pickle tray, all served up in interiors inspired by Irani cafés of Mumbai.

Mowgli

631 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield S11 8PT
0114 266 0069
mowglistreetfood.com
You might have heard of Mowgli for their unusual swing seats, but rest assured they have the flavours to back up the appeal of their interiors. Mowgli’s Indian street food dishes are packed with flavour, and their Sheffield outpost is no exception. Start with their yoghurt chat bombs: crisp bread puffs filled with chickpeas, spiced yoghurt, tamarind and coriander, and then move on to their house lamb, which is simmered with anise, plums and chickpeas. If you like to be surprised, their tiffin boxes form a sort of food roulette – four tiers of meat, veg and carb chosen by the chef for you to sample.

tacos, tequila and mezcal Piña

Piña

3 Harvest Lane, Sheffield S3 8EF
barpina.co.uk
This fun Mexican street food restaurant is the place to go for a relaxed evening of tacos, tequila and mezcal. Keep an eye out for their new venue, Poco, opening soon at the Stag Works.

Nonnas

535–541 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield S11 8PR
0114 268 6166
nonnas.co.uk
One of Sheffield’s best-loved Italians, if you’re in the mood for a great plate of fresh pasta and a glass of good wine, Nonnas is the perfect choice. They have a vegan menu and a good kids menu alongside their classic à la carte, and their imaginative dishes have earned them an AA-Rosette award.
