Farmer Copleys
With more than 250,000 pumpkins in 40 varieties, Farmer Copley’s patch is a multicoloured spectacle. There’s plenty to do at their Pumpkin Festival aside from picking, including tractor rides, live shows, a daily fancy dress competition, archery, street food and a bar, and their pumpkin nights will have a fantastic musical line-up of live tribute acts. They’re open weekends in October until the 21st, then every day until Halloween.

Yorkshire Pumpkins
Yorkshire Pumpkins have 35 varieties of pumpkin (including pink, blue and even leopard-print ones for picking). Stable Pizza Company will be serving wood-fired pizza, and the pumpkin café has everything from pumpkin soup to bat buns. There’s also a huge hay bale mountain for all ages to climb, a rope maize, pumpkin wash and plenty of photo opportunities. They’re open every weekend in October and farmers Rob and David will be on hand to answer any questions.

Sandy Bottom Farm
Sandy Bottom have more than 75,000 pumpkins in 34 varieties to pick from, from the perfectly round to the hideous and warty. They also have a delicious selection of hot food to fuel up on while you’re picking, including Greek street food, stone-baked pizzas, barista coffee and dirty donuts. Little ones will love the variety of visitors to the patch, including Queen Elsa, a unicorn and real life reptiles to handle with Lion Learners. They also have a maize maze, so you can pick your own corn on the cob, and face painting too. Sandy Bottom support a new charity each year, and this year, they’re raising money for Blood Cancer UK. They’re open every weekend in October, plus half term, and have a night picking event on Friday 18th October – it’s popular, so booking is essential.

Spilmans
Spilmans have 125,000 home-grown pumpkins in their fields, and each ticket comes with a £4 voucher to spend on your pumpkin. That’s not all, though – there are also fairground and tractor rides, corn cannons, marshmallow toasting and a new live show, Wizfords Academy of Witches and Wizards. There’s also a popular spooky walk, and a fancy dress Halloween disco. They’re open October weekends, then every day from the 22nd until Halloween.

Stockeld Park
Find thousands of pumpkins ripe for the picking in Stockeld Park’s meadow this autumn, and every child with a ticket gets to choose theirs for free. While there, explore the magical maze, tangle tree climb and enchanted forest, plus their indoor playground, Playhive. They’re open every October weekend, then daily from the 26th until Halloween.

Castle Howard
Castle Howard’s Garden Centre Pumpkin Patch is back for the fourth year running. With various sizes and colours for carving and cooking, pumpkin prices vary depending on size. The patch is open from 1st to 31st October, and whilst you’re there, make sure you explore the house and grounds in their autumnal splendour.

Birchfield Family Dairies
Grab a wheelbarrow and search the three fields of pumpkins to find your gorgeous gourd at Birchfield Farm. The café will be serving take-out food and drinks, and entrance to the patch is free – you just pay for what you pick. They’re open every day from 8th October until Halloween.

Cannon Hall Farm
Cannon Hall is home to 10,000 pumpkins and there are expert carvers on hand to jazz up your jack’o’lanterns. Children who have a paid ticket are entitled to one free pumpkin, whatever the size, and attendees are encouraged to wear fancy dress (prizes will be awarded for best costumes). New for 2024 is the VR spooky Halloween pumpkin ride, a 360-degree train ride with VR headset for a fun fright. Head down at the weekend from 12th October, and from the 26th they’re open every day until Halloween.

Piglets Adventure Farm
The Pumpkin Festival at Piglets Adventure Farm is one kids won’t want to miss, with pumpkin picking and carving, and even a giant, smoke-breathing dragon performing in a live show. Find all the hidden dragon eggs (in the maize maze) and take part in the ghost trail around the farm to find famous York ghosts. Join them at weekends from the second weekend in October, then daily from the 26th until Halloween for spooktacular fun.

The Pumpkin Patch
At The Pumpkin Patch, find more than 45 varieties of pumpkins, gourds and squashes. Visitors can meet Peter Pumpkin as well as pygmy goats, and are challenged to find the golden pumpkin in the fields. They also offer pumpkin carving on-site to save the mess at home. Pick your own pumpkin is open weekends throughout October, but the farm shop is open daily, with pumpkins on display to purchase.
