In celebration of our 250th issue of Living North in the North East we have teamed up with one of our very favourite hotel destinations, Middleton Lodge Estate near Richmond, to offer a truly special prize
One very lucky reader will win an exclusive overnight stay for six in the main house, with dinner at the newly opened fine-dining Forge restaurant.
This luxurious 200-acre estate has been lovingly restored by owners James and Rebecca Allison and now boasts sumptuous boutique accommodation, two restaurants, treatments rooms and a soon-to-open Forest Spa.
The honey-stone buildings have been carefully converted by the creative husband and wife duo. Rooms are dotted across the landscape, tucked away in the Coach House, Dairy and Orchard. Two dream country cottages have too been transformed and can be hired for idyllic country stays – perfect for family gatherings. The Georgian Main House remains at the heart of the estate and can be hired exclusively for gatherings, private events and on certain evenings for stays and dinner at Forge. There are two restaurants onsite, the all day, relaxed and noted Coach House restaurant and Forge. Both fuelled by the produce growing in the two-acre kitchen gardens and that supplied locally by the neighbouring farming community.
Newly opened Forge brings a completely unique tasting experience to Middleton Lodge. A tasting menu has been created by head chef Jake Jones, to reflect the ebb and flow of the seasons; the 10 courses are full of delight and are carefully designed to evoke the senses.
Jake is known for his innovative culinary skills. Working with the estate’s landscape, woodlands and gardens, and a carefully chosen list of local suppliers and farmers, he has created the tasting experience with his love for the landscape clearly reflected in the inventive, sustainable cooking approaches he adopts. Inside the restaurant open stone walls, dimmed lighting and flickering candles create an atmospheric feel.
To round off the perfect evening, the winner, together with their guests, will spend the night in the Main House. The Palladian mansion, at the heart of the estate, is filled with charm and character, so expect crackling open fires and charming bedrooms that overlook the surrounding parkland.
